State government trying to promote and encourage sports and sports persons
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav on Monday met Mr. Ashok Dhyanchand, Mr. Devendra Singh and Mr. Virendra Singh, sons of famous hockey player Major Dhyanchand. During the meeting at his official residence, the Chief Minister said that the government was making sustained efforts to promote and encourage sports and sportspersons in the state. Keeping up with its commitment for the same, the state government has also rewarded the Olympic medalists from India, the Chief Minister said.
Recalling his student life, the Chief Minister said that he too was a hockey player. Mr. Yadav also assured Arjuna awardee and hockey player Mr. Ashok Dhyanchand that the Jhansi Heroes Club, which was formed by Major Dhyanchand in 1922 would be renovated.
The CM said that an astro-turf and a mini stadium would also be established on the ground. It may be mentioned that the ‘samadhi sthal’ of the late hockey player is in this very ground only. On this occasion Mr. Amod Kumar, advisor to the CM and other senior officials were present.
