In case of callousness, responsibilities of police and administrative officers fixed at various levels
If serious crimes continue unchecked, the District Police Chief will take punitive action against station house officer (SHO)
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday issued strict instructions to officers to maintain law and order and check crime. Accountabilities at various levels for administrative and police officers have also been fixed in case of callousness towards discharge of duties. In case of criminal incidences at police station level, SHO’s will be held responsible and strict punitive actions would be initiated against errant SHO’s by district police chiefs.
Principal Secretary (Home) Mr. Anil Kumar Gupta has issued instructions with regards to this to the DGP, all divisional commissioners, zonal IGs, range DIGs, DMs, SSPs and SPs. In the instructions it has been said that the DMs and SSPs would be responsible for maintaining law and order and in urban areas the onus for the same would be on ADMs and ASPs, on teshils it would be the duty of SDM’s and Circle Officers.
The government has also instructed officers to keep their CUG mobile phones in switched on mode so that communication could be established with them as and when needed. Orders have also been issued to spruce up picketing in all districts and senior officers are expected to make surprise inspections to check the readiness of the police force. Police pickets have also been ordered for sensitive places.
In the instructions issued at the state government level, officers have also been asked to ensure that rumours are checked in time to contain any further spread. Keeping up with the instructions of the chief minister, orders have also been issued to check and control escalation of small incidents which often take shape of larger crimes. Officers have also been asked to ensure that land related disputes are effectively addressed and handled sensitively.
Instructions have also been issued to ensure presence of constables and that regular communication with the people is established. Strict action has been given to hound out criminal gangs and collect prior intelligence on their activities.
