Chief Minister stresses the need of running a ‘Clean, Green and Healthy India’ Mission
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav has said that the state government was committed to promoting cleanliness in the state. To make cleanliness comprehensive, it needs to be linked to environment conservation and awareness about health, the Chief Minister added while pointing out that the state had already initiated a ‘Clean, Green and Healthy UP’ mission.
Mr. Yadav also called for initiating a ‘Clean, Green and Healthy India’ mission on the same lines so that other than cleanliness, environmental conservation and health are also inter-linked and pan- Indian awareness is spread. Giving this information, a state government spokesman said that the state government had already decided to develop Lucknow and Agra as cycle friendly cities. It has also been decided that Noida and greater Noida would be developed as cycle friendly cities.
Under this, cycle tracks would be built and cycle tracks, cycle stands and shelters would be established. By doing so, not only would cycling be encouraged but healthy lifestyle would be promoted and pollution will be reduced.
According to the spokesman, in every district of the state a scheme of developing 50 acres or more area as green belt by planting saplings is running. To enhance the green cover in the state, in the year 2012-13 the state forest department had planted 3.93 crore saplings in 51,846 hectares of land. In 2013-14, 5.68 crore saplings had been planted on 67,600 hectare area.
