State Government serious towards the problems of farmers
Social worker & activist Mr. Yogendra Yadav today called on Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav at the latter’s official residence here. On this occasion, the chief minister thanked Mr. Yadav for his suggestions with regards to farmers issues and assured that the state government will consider them.
He also said that the state government would take necessary steps, after review, on the situation arising out of poor and scanty rainfall in the state this year. It may be pointed out here that Mr. Yogendra Yadav is on a nationwide tour these days where he is assessing the situation emanating out of poor rainfall in various states and its impact on the lives of farmers. He was in the city on invitation of the chief minister.
During the meeting, the chief minister assured Mr. Yadav that the state government was committed to the welfare of the farmers and had taken several decisions in this direction. He informed the social worker that the state was celebrating the year as ‘Year of Farmer’ and that the state government has disbursed compensation to farmers whose crops were damaged earlier this year due to unseasonal rains and hailstorm.
The state also provides free irrigation to farmers and has waived off their loans, has increased accidental insurance for farmers from Rs one lakh to Rs five lakh and efforts have been made to get them adequate price for their harvest, the chief minister pointed out. Similarly, fertilizers and pesticides were being provided to them on time and the power scenario in villages has also been considerably improved.
During the meeting, Mr. Yogendra Yadav said during his tour he has been handed over many important suggestions to overcome the drought-like situation and that he has passed on these suggestions to the UP chief minister and other state governments. He also informed that when he wrote a letter to Mr. Akhilesh Yadav with regards to this, he responded with an invitation to Lucknow to meet him.
He has heard me out patiently and assured me that necessary action would be taken after due deliberations, the social worker said. Mr. Yogendra Yadav also said that he would soon be writing to the prime minister on the same subject as many decisions for welfare of the farmers come under the purview of the central government. He also called for extra funds from the ‘National Disaster Relief Fund’ for the state.
Also present during the meeting were PWD, Irrigation and Cooperatives Minister Mr. Shivpal Singh Yadav, Political Pensions minister Mr. Rajendra Chowdhary, chief secretary Mr. Alok Ranjan, Agriculture Production Commissioner Mr. Praveer Kumar and other officials.
