Area of green belt has considerably increased in the last two years
Chief Minister inaugurates the Toy Train in Kanpur Zoo
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav has said that present-day state government was working seriously to enhance the number of trees in the state and added that it was because of these efforts that in past two years the green belt area in the state had increased considerably.
He also said that efforts were being made to ensure that both Lucknow and Kanpur zoo’s became tourist draws. Kanpur zoo is the second biggest zoo in the state after the Lucknow zoo, Mr. Yadav said and added that within one years toy train was provided to it. The Chief Minister was speaking at a function at his official residence to inaugurate the toy train of Kanpur zoo and the concluding ceremony of the Forest Wildlife Week 2014 which was held between October 01-07.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the toy train Kanpur zoo through video conferencing. The toy train has four coaches in which 84 passengers can travel in one time. The train will run on a 2.18 km long railway track and will have a main railway station and two halts. The train has a battery operated engine. Lauding the work undertaken by the forest department, the Chief Minister said that the department had done some new and unique works. Pointing out how people were bewildered by the height of the plants sown in 2012-13 and wonder how their height is so good within a short span, Mr. Yadav said it was admirable that the forest department has not only planted more plants but have also taken adequate care to protect them. Citing the example of Parijaat tree, the Chief Minister said it was widely believed that the tree species was not available but the forest department proved them wrong and established a nursery of Parijaat after which many people have been encouraged to plant it.
