Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav has issued instructions for a crack down on loan sharks in the state and has said that officials should initiate strict action against people who give loans on higher interest rates so that the poor people are rescued from the shackles of the money-lenders.
Harassed by loan sharks, a family of five had committed suicide recently in Allahabad and taking note of the tragic incident, the Chief Minister issued these instructions. He also announced a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the mother of the deceased head of the family. The Chief Minister also mourned the deaths and extended his condolences to the bereaved family.
Mr. Yadav also instructed the Chief Secretary to make an action plan so that those in need can be provided loan through institutional financial groups and banks. The Chief Minister further observed that such incidents were a blot on civilized society and added that the state government will keep an eye on loan sharks and take effective measures to ensure that the poor don’t fall prey to them.
