With all-round praise of the Samajwadi Shrawan Yatra, decision taken to enable free travel for senior citizens of the state to Tirupati and Rameshwaram
Following instructions of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr Akhilesh Yadav, under the Samajwadi Shrawan Yatra, permanent senior citizens of the state will be sent to pilgrim destinations Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) and Rameshwaram (Tamil Nadu) on the cost borne by the State Government. Providing this Information Principal Secretary (Religious Affairs) Mr. Navneet Sehgal said that this facility would be available to permanent senior citizens of the state and would be executed by the IRCTC of the Indian Railways. Mr. Sehgal also added that the selected pilgrims would be taken on board a special train, chartered by the IRCTC, from Lucknow to Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) and Rameshwaram (Tamil Nadu).
The travellers would be given general class facilities and during the journey they would be provided with a travelling kit. The principal secretary also informed that to-and-fro journey facility for the pilgrims from their home districts to Lucknow would be taken care by the UPSRTC and that the travellers would be provided food based on fixed menu, which will include morning tea,breakfast, lunch, evening tea and dinner. Only vegetarian food would be served during the pilgrimage.
In every coach a tour escort will be available who would look after the travellers, would help them out in case of any problems and will ensure information and proper facilities during the journey. Every coach would also have an unarmed security guard and in case of a security situation, RPF and GRP will be available for help. Cleanliness would be on top priority and cleaning employees will be available in coaches with necessary things.
Facility of information to passengers through the public address system is also being ensured. There would be 1044 berths reserved for the pilgrims and the IRCTC would also do accidental insurance of all pilgrims. Mr. Sehgal pointed out that the pilgrimage was proposed between tentative dates of November 26- December 04, 2015. They should apply with relevant documents latest by October 15, 2015 on the website and by November 1, 2015 physically at the DM’s office. The documentation for availing the pilgrimage requires residential proof from competent authority, date of birth duly certified and health and fitness certificate from the district medical officer along with two passport sized photos.
All District Magistrate’s will have to ensure that the date of receipt is duly written on the application form and that all forms are properly uploaded on the website. In the list prepared as such, the criterion of selection would be ‘first come, first serve’ and based on the seniority of age. All DMs are also expected to prepare a waiting list of people who are unable to take the trip this time and they would be provided an opportunity in the next pilgrimage. The applicants are expected to jot down their mobile number on the application so that they can be provided information on the pilgrimage on SMS. From every district, a maximum of 10 persons would be made available and the rest pilgrims would be selected at the state government level. During the journey, two doctors and four nurses would be provided by the health department for whom six berths would be reserved on the special trail. The district magistrate’s would also be responsible for providing the application forms to the government in original and to provide relevant information to selected applicants. Keeping in mind the local weather, passengers are advised to take appropriate clothing etc. The Principal Secretary also informed that the Samajwadi Shrawan Yatra, started on directions of the Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav has won laurels and appreciation from everyone and hence this free-of-cost pilgrimage to Tirupati and Rameshwaram has been organized after previous visits to Haridwar, Rishikesh, Ajmer Sharif and Pushkar shrines during this year.
