During the drive more than a lakh raids conducted, 39,605 persons arrested
Instructions issued to launch a drive again from October 1 against illicit liquor trade and related offences
Police department asked to actively support the drive
On instructions of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav a massive drive was launched against illegal excise trade in the state between April-August 2014 in which string action has been taken against people involved. The Chief Minister has ordered launch of another drive from October 1 and has directed the police department to extend all help and support in this drive.
Giving this information a state government spokesman said today that during the drive, over a lakh raids were conducted across the state and 39,605 people involved in illegal excise trade and related crimes were arrested. During the drive, 622 vehicles were seized and action was taken against people involved in the trade under various sections of the Excise Act and the IPC.
During the drive 13 lakh bulk litre illicit liquor worth Rs. 34.95 crore was also recovered. Between April-August 2014, the Excise Department conducted 1,05,568 raids which was 10,539 more against the 95,029 raids previous year. During the said raids, 55,691 cases were registered which also included 5,037 cases related with inter-state liquor smuggling. Apart from this, many fake holograms were also seized. During the drive 2,525 accused were sent to prison.
