Primary section of the Metro Rail from Transport Nagar to Charbagh to be completed by December, 2016
State Government utilizing financial resources for public welfare and developing infrastructural facilities
Along with Metro Rail, the State Government also promoting the popular medium of the common man, the bicycle
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav has said that the state government was utilizing the financial resources for welfare of the people and developing basic infrastructure in the state and added that the amount of work done during the last two-and-a-half years by the Samajwadi Government was more than, the work done by any other state government in the country.
The Chief Minister was speaking after launching of works for the priority section of the Lucknow Metro Rail project. The 8-km priority section between Transport Nagar and Charbagh under the North-South corridor to be built at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore would be completed by December, 2016. This elevated section would have Transport Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Singar Nagar, Alambagh, Alambagh Bus Station, Mawaiyya, Durgapuri and Charbagh as stations.
Mr. Akhilesh Yadav expressed hope that under the able direction and guidance of Dr. E. Shreedharan work on Lucknow Metro Rail would begin in the right earnest and the people of Lucknow will soon be given a world class facility of transport. Since the foundation laying of the depot in March 2014, work is going on at a fast speed, the chief minister said while underlining how the Metro Rail was a major decision of the state government and said that all efforts were being done to make it a reality soon.
For this, he pointed out, execution of decision ground level was done at a very fast pace unlike other Metro rail projects. The state government was also trying to get Metro rail in all the major cities of the state, he said while pointing out that UP was the only state where three cities have metro rail facility. Expressing satisfaction at the commencement of work at Lucknow after Noida and Ghaziabad, Mr. Yadav said DPR would be prepared for all other major cities for running Metro rail there.
The Chief Minister also said that while the State Government was expanding modern infrastructure facility like Metro, it was also undertaking measures to promote the popular mode of transport of the common man, the bicycle. Referring to the proposed separate tracks for cyclists, the Chief Minister said, this would encourage more and more people to use the cycle.
He also stated that Samajwadi Government is working for the development of those facilities and sectors about which governments of other parties never ponder. Mr. Yadav said farmers were extending support to the ambitious Agra-Lucknow Expressway project and hoped that very soon this project would start taking shape. Referring to free laptop scheme for students, unemployment allowance, Kanya Vidyadhan, free medicines and treatment for the poor, the Chief Minister said all this was being done for the people, especially the poor, downtrodden and the weaker sections of the society.
He also said that very soon people will be benefited by the Samajwadi Pension Scheme and added that the present Government had fulfilled the promises made to the people. The Chief Minister also issued directives to officials to complete all projects that were underway in other parts of the state. Before this, Urban Development Minister Mr. Mohd. Azam Khan in his address said that Lucknow was an old and big city and to keep it clean and provide modern basic amenities was the duty of the state government and it was being done. He also said that the Samajwadi Government never promised on anything which it was not able to deliver.
Terming the Lucknow Metro Rail a great gift to the people of the city, Health Minister Mr. Ahmad Hasan said that this facility will immensely benefit the people in commuting from one place to another. Advisor, Externally Aided Projects, Mr. Madhukar Jaitley said though the Metro project was not in the Manifesto of the Party, the Government had still initiated it. He also added that in times to come, work on providing Metro facility in Kanpur, Agra, Meerut etc. will also be undertaken.
On this occasion, the Chief Advisor of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project Dr. E. Shreedharan said the dream of a world class transport system, will be fulfilled. The task of this section’s civil work has been given to L&T Company.
The company has rich experience in executing Metro Rail projects. Chief Secretary Mr. Alok Ranjan said that North-South corridor has been divided into three parts of which the first phase begins today. He added that the cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 6,880 crore and would be executed on a 50:50 equity mode between the State and the Union Government and that the State Government was also thinking of taking an external loan of Rs. 3,502 crore.
Before this Principal Secretary Housing Mr. Sadakant welcomed the Chief Minister and other guests and assured that the dream project would be completed within stipulated time lines. Vote of thanks was proposed by Managing Director of Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation, Mr. Kumar Keshav.
Also present at the function were Ministers in the State Government, Mr. Ambika Chowdhary, Mr. Ram Govind Chowdhary, Mr Rajendra Chowdhary, Mr. Parasnath Yadav, Mr. Om Prakash Singh, Mr. Balram Yadav, Dr. Shiv Pratap Singh Yadav, Mr. Vinod Kumar aka Pandit Singh, Mr. Manoj Pandey and a large number of other public representatives, officials and citizens.
