Chief Minister flags off Cycle rally
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav has said that cycling imparts a better sense of balance in life and it not only allows conservation of the environment but also benefits health. He added that it was a cheap mode of commuting for the poor, labour class, the hard working, farmers, poor, students and youngsters and keeping that in mind the state government has exempted bicycles from VAT.
This, he added, would allow more and more people to buy and use this mode of commuting. The Chief Minister was today flagged off a cycle rally held under the aegis of the Lucknow Mahotsava-2014, at the Janeshwar Mishra Park. The cycle rally had three sections meant for different age groups. This included races for boys, girls and senior citizens.
On this occasion, Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Mr. Mahesh Kumar Gupta and District Magistrate Mr. Rajshekhar presented the Chief Minister a bouquet, badge and a memento. The prize distribution for the winners of the rally was held at Shastri Bhawan. The Chief Minister gave Ms. Sonal Singh, winner of the 5 km race for girls a cash prize of Rs. 20,000, Rs. 10,000 for the second position holder Ms. Poornima and Rs. 5,000 and a sports cycle for the third position holder Ms. Sunita Sonkar.
Similarly, in the senior citizens 5 km. race first prize of Rs. 20,000 was won by Mr. Goverdhan Singh, Mr. Raj Kumar Tiwari got Rs. 10,000 as second prize and Mr. Ashvini Kumar Rs. 5,000 and a sports cycle for coming third in the race. In the 15 km. race for boys, Mr. Ajeet Singh won the first prize of Rs. 20,000, Mr. Suraj Kumar (IInd prize) of Rs. 15,000 and Mr. Sameer Singh won Rs. 5,000 for coming IIIrd in the race. The prize were given by Chief Minister Mr Akhilesh Yadav.
