Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav has said that the road to prosperity and progress goes through the opportunities of development for the poor, villages and the farmers. He also stated that his government was committed to take all possible steps in favour of the farmers and that it was because of this ethos, the Samajwadi government was continuously striving to provide better opportunities to the poor and farmers.
The Chief Minister expressed these views at his official residence on the occasion of flagging off 26 new vehicles of the agriculture department. He said that the state government had decided to observe the financial year 2015-16 as the ‘Year of the Farmer’ so that the problems faced by farmers are attended promptly and effectively. The new vehicles will enable the department to be in constant touch with farmers and solve their problems promptly, the CM further said.
Mr. Yadav also pointed out how the state government had come to the rescue of the besieged farmers in the aftermath of the unseasonal rains and hailstorm and informed how the government had given the highest compensation for crop damage than anywhere else in the state. The state government had also decided to do away with the provision of cutting of price of wheat based on quality as it had suffered due to the rains.
To address the host of problems faced by farmers in the state the government has already implemented ‘Agriculture Policy-2013’ and new mandi’s were being established for potato, grains, fruits, milk and vegetables on the sides of the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. Mr. Yadav also highlighted how the state government had introduced a transparent system for distribution of seeds under which farmers are being registered online and they are being given seeds at development block level. The subsidy was also being directly transferred to their bank accounts. More than 4.50 lakh farmers had enrolled themselves under this scheme.
Also present on the occasion were Political Pensions Minister Mr. Rajendra Chowdhary, Minister of State for Agriculture Mr. Rajeev Kumar Singh, advisor to the agriculture department Mr. Ramesh Yadav, Principal Secretary Agriculture Mr. Amit Mohan Prasad and senior officials of the state government and the district administration and media persons.
