Chief Minister urges Union Government to rethink on decision to open NIFT centres in Noida, Lucknow and Bareilly

Establishing three NIFT centres would improve quality in textile industry, create jobs and boost chances of export of clothes

State Government will provide free land for establishing these three centres

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav has written a letter to Union Minister of State for Textiles (Independent Charge) Mr. Santosh Kumar Gangwar, for a rethink on opening of NIFT centres in Lucknow, Noida and Bareilly. In his letter to the Union Minister, the Chief Minister has said that the state government has implemented a Textile Industry Policy-2014, along with the Industrial Development Policy, which throws up positive and bright prospects for investment in the sector and its expansion.

The Chief Minister has further pointed out, in his letter, that readymade garment and apparel industry is already established in Kanpur, Meerut, Noida, Lucknow and Bareilly. Keeping this in mind, he has pointed out, he had in the past, on February 5, 2015, written a letter, keeping in mind the need of able and professional trainers, a request to open NIFT centres in the state. With regards to this, the union government vide its communique on April 24, 2015, had clarified that there is provision of opening only one NIFT campus in a state. In response to this, Mr. Yadav has pointed out that Uttar Pradesh is a big state and a NIFT centre is already open in Rae Bareli district of eastern UP, which is inadequate in meeting the needs and aspirations of the state.

So the state government has proposed setting up of NIFT centres in Noida (Western UP), Lucknow (Central UP) and Bareilly in Ruhelkhand. He also said that the state government was ready to provide free-of-cost land for these centres. He also stated that even three centres were not enough for vast and most populous state like UP, but if these centres are set up, then the quality in textile industry would improve further. It would also help in creating and chances of export of clothes will also be boosted further.
