LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has earmarked funds for all major sops promised during elections, in his maiden budget presented in the state assembly on Friday. The budget has Rs 2,721 crore for providing tablets and laptops for students who pass Class X and XII, respectively.
The figure looks inadequate given the initial estimates of Rs 4,500 crore for procuring computers. Rs 1,100 crore has been allocated for unemployment allowance of Rs 1,000 per month. The budget has also set aside Rs 500 crore for writing off farmer loans. Up to Rs 50,000 loans of farmers will be waived off. The government has also provided Rs 400 crore for payment of sugarcane arrears. Yadav said that the government would soon bring a new land acquisition scheme which would be farmer-friendly.
